The Charite Clinic: The German Medical Team Saving the Lives of Kremlin Critics

Doctors and nurses the world over are receiving praise for their fight against the novel corona virus. Another group of doctors, at the Charite Clinic in Berlin, are fighting to save the lives of Russia’s opposition leaders.

The German Clinic became well known this past weekend for taking in Alexi Navlany after the Kremlin’s attempt to poison him. Physicians issueed the following statement:

“Following his admission, Mr. Navalny underwent extensive examination by a team of Charité physicians. Clinical findings indicate poisoning with a substance from the group of cholinesterase inhibitors. The specific substance involved remains unknown, and a further series of comprehensive testing has been initiated. The effect of the poison – namely, the inhibition of cholinesterase in the body – was confirmed by multiple tests in independent laboratories.”
If this statement sounds familiar it is because the Charite Clinic issued a similar one in 2018, when it treated another opposition leader, Pyotr Verzilov in September of 2018.

After participating in a public stunt during the FIFA World Cup in Moscow in July of 2018, Pyotr Verzilov and several other Pussy Riot members were arrested and charged. On 11 September that year, Verzilov was suddenly hospitalized and by the 13th he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Russia doctors denied any foul play involved in Verzilov’s illness and when he regained consciousness, he was transferred to Germany’s Charite Clinic. Doctors at the Berlin clinic disagreed with that diagnosis.

Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Eckardt, Head of the Medical Clinic, Division of Nephrology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine stated that, “We are now working on the assumption that he was poisoned nearly a week ago. Clinical findings suggest a particular group of substances was involved, but the substance itself remains unknown. Following consultation with toxicology experts, we have initiated a broad range of tests.”

Once again Germany comes in to clean up the Kremlin’s mess. Once again, Europe watches as Putin uses violence and murder to erase any sign of dissent in his totalitarian regime. It is that violence and complete disregard for human life that is now spilling outside of Russia to our front doors.

We urge you to contact your country leaders and demand they take action against Russia. The European Union is stronger than Putin. Our shared values are being put to the test. We cannot let him win.
